Honoring the Irish patron saint, St. Patrick, this holiday is celebrated on March 17th each year. The first St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated in American in 1737, organized by the Charitable Irish Society of Boston and included a feast and religious services.
This first celebration of the holiday in the colonies was largely to honor and celebrate the Irish culture that so many colonists had been separated from.
St. Patrick’s is celebrated with traditional Irish food, including corned beef, cabbage, soda bread, potatoes, and shepherd’s pie.
